Our Mission

FREE-B is studying free-living honey bee colonies (FLCs) in France, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, and Sweden to better understand how they survive via natural selection (i.e., without human intervention), in order to devise nature-based solutions to lower colony mortality rates, increase beekeeping’s sustainability, preserve biodiversity, and protect threatened populations.

Participate

Consortium partners will conduct their research between 2025–2027. To supplement their teams’ efforts, the study seeks to engage concerned citizens, too, who want to help with data collection by locating and monitoring FLC nest sites all over Europe.
